Attention to details and patience with the design process is one of the many things that make MKDB unique.

“During my carpentry apprenticeship when I had very little influence on the design of the project, I would see again and again additions that were not married into the existing home to the point of the existing structure being rendered almost useless. At MKDB we create a seamless harmony with the existing surroundings, and the result transcends the sum of its parts. This isn’t to say we’re conservative in our approach. Harmony is achieved through a balancing of many elements and sometimes is discovered in the contrast of complimentary styles.”

There is a principal in permaculture of asking the question, “what does it want to be?” and this is very much our approach to architecture, and why we are a design build firm. There is an evolutionary process that begins at our initial site visit and continues throughout the design and building process, avoiding the loss of vision that may take place during the transition from designer to builder. Another reason we are design build is because many opportunities present themselves during the construction phase inviting us to create a more harmonious union of beauty and function while still honoring the vision.
